First, a little bit of admin. From now on, free subscribers will receive two letters a month and paid subscribers with receive four. I do this to support myself as a mother/writer. I value my work and I encourage you to foster a similar mindset in regards to what you do and create. If the work you’re doing right now is mothering, know that it’s the most important, the most challenging and also the most socially undervalued.
I also know that you’re mothering in a cost of living crisis and paid parental leave entitlements aren’t as generous as they need to be (not even close). If your budget is too tight to pay for a subscription right now, please let me know and I’ll sign you up, no questions asked. I trust that those of you who can and want to pay for a subscription, will (by doing so, you’re providing access to the mothers in your community who can’t afford it right now).
We may not have the practical support of a consistent village, but we can definitely take small steps to helping the mothers around us.
You can also gift a subscription to a new mum in your life:
Dear new mum,
I know, there’s a lot of advice shared in this season. Sometimes it’s helpful to remember that while it may be well-meaning, it’s not always relevant or even suitable. Take what feels right, leave the rest.
Is it comforting to know that it’s never been harder to be a mother?
This isn’t just my opinion, either.
